Louisa Farms owes its name to Louisa Kontaxi-Batistatou, born in 1926 and raised in the olive-rich Kalamata region of the Peloponnesus. Growing up, Louisa learned first hand about the healthy “secrets” of extra virgin olive oil from her extended family’s olive farming holdings located throughout beautiful Kalamata, the Peloponnesus, and the Ionian islands.
Following her marriage in 1953 to native Kefalonian and renowned Orthodox Greek theologian Dionissios Batistatos, Louisa served as a Red Cross nurse for years, devoting herself to comforting those still struggling with the effects of Germany’s WWII occupation and the subsequent Greek civil war. While tending to the sick and needy, Louisa promoted the medicinal benefits of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) as a natural supplement for a healthy diet.
She continued to pursue this passion for healthy, natural daily nutrition throughout her long life, while teaching about the symbolic importance of olive oil in Greece’s own cultural history. Today, her children and grandchildren, continue to honor Louisa’s memory and her deep belief in the healing and positive dietary benefits of EVOO by offering THIAKO EVOO and KORONEIKO EVOO, each one harvested from a single variety of olives (Thiakes, Koreoneikes) grown in Skineas, on the gorgeous Ionian island of Kefalonia.
Louisa’s descendants invite you to enjoy the distinct THIAKO and KORONEIKO flavors and to benefit from its unsurpassed nutritional value. Louisa’s lessons and love for exquisite EVOO can be found in the distinct mixture of fruitiness, bitterness, and pungency of this Kefalonia-harvested single variety olive oil sure to please all EVOO lovers.
